A delegation from Pattaya, Thailand, visited Busan from July 30 to August 1 to pursue membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the film sector. This visit aimed to learn from Busan’s successful case as the coordinator city of the UCCN film subnetwork. The delegation sought advice and toured key film and video-related institutions in Busan, including the Busan Cinema Center.

The delegation consisted of 36 members, including the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, key figures from DASTA (Designated Area for Sustainable Tourism Administration), the Thai Film Archive, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. They inspected Busan’s film-related infrastructure and sought advice necessary for joining the UCCN.

During their visit, the delegation had meetings with the Busan Cinema Center and the Busan Film Commission to receive practical advice. They also toured major film-related facilities in Busan, such as the Busan Cinema Center, the Busan Film Commission, and the Museum of Movies. They benchmarked Busan’s case of joining the UCCN film sector, learning creative and innovative ways to develop the film industry, which they plan to incorporate into their UCCN application.

Jin-hae Kim, CEO of the Busan Cinema Center, said, “As the center of the film industry and the film coordinator city of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Busan is proud to play this role. We hope that this visit will strengthen cooperation and exchange between the two cities and help Pattaya successfully join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.”

Through this visit, Pattaya aims to enhance its capabilities as a sustainable tourism administration area and develop strategies to successfully join the UCCN film sector. Busan plans to strengthen international cooperation and exchange through this visit and further solidify its leading position in the creative industry sector.
